RAUSI Announcements

23 January, 2023

2023 01 Tom and Michael OSulivan receive QPJMThe Honourable Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services and MLA for Calgary-West, presented Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medals to Thomas and Michael O'Sullivan on 20 January 2023.

Thomas O'Sullivan was a two-term Director with RAUSI, and is now a director with the Calgary Military Family Resource Center. Tom is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta. He holds a law degree (J.D.), called to Alberta bar 1993, an undergraduate science degree in geology and economics, and graduate studies and holds a certification from Indigenous Canada. He is a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics.

Tom resides in Calgary, Alberta and is active in the community, sitting on boards for not-for-profit organizations, has coached hockey at the Junior level, with Hockey Canada coaching high performance hockey development camps provincially, and with the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary. Tom is a former commissioned officer of the Canadian Armed Forces (released first quarter 2022), outdoor specialist for specific army units, a guest instructor and expedition team leader for the Calgary Expedition Site, RCSU (NW) region. As an instructor with local army cadet corps and air cadet squadrons, he instructed on an Expedition Instructor course in the Yukon, summer 2019 with CAF, was a cohort supervisor for an inaugural southern Alberta cadet activity program for summer 2021, and as a former pilot was called upon by CAF and oversaw the successful delivery of an air cadet Power Pilot Training Course for summer 2022. As a result of his overseeing the delivery of this power pilot program for 17 elite air cadets last summer where all achieved their wings, his leadership and mentorship had a profound impact on the cadets. One cadet stated, “There is no other way to put this in other terms but I think it is safe to say Tom O’Sullivan’s leadership and mentorship have forever changed our lives.”

RAUSI Honorary Piper, Cpl Michael O'Sullivan, has unselfishly worked to assist all that have reached out to him and in assisting he has positively benefitted those community members and organizations in helping fulfill their goals. Michael has prioritized his contributions to the community through his volunteerism and commitment towards contributing towards public good and working towards assisting civic and military organizations and community members in helping them to reach their goals by fulfilling a role at special civic or military ceremonies, assisting in fund raising for charitable organizations, or honoring veterans. All together Michael's contributions have made a lasting positive impact to the community.

Michael is a student attending Mount Royal University. He is active in the community volunteering for many community organizations and is a Reserve member (Infantryman) of the Calgary Highlanders. He is also an active member of the Regimental Pipes and Drums of the Calgary Highlanders of the Canadian Armed Forces and is a defenseman with the Oak Leaves Hockey Team, representing the Calgary Highlanders in the Calgary Garrison Hockey League.

RAUSI is proud to have Tom and Michael as members and volunteers. We congratulate them both on being recognized for their service.
