The Israel-Hamas war benefits Russia, but so would playing peacemaker

The recent official visit to Moscow by representatives from Hamas and Iran was roundly condemned by Israel. A spokesperson for Israel’s foreign ministry called the visit an “obscene step that gives support to terrorism and legitimises the atrocities of Hamas terrorists”.

The Hamas delegation was led by Mousa Abu Marzook, a founder and political leader of the militant group. Iran was represented by deputy foreign minister, Ali Bagheri, who was received by his Russian counterpart, Mikhail Galuzin.

Despite Russia’s involvement in a war in Ukraine that many still fear could engulf Europe, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has repeatedly warned that the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza could escalate into a regional war. ‍

US and Arab partners disagree on the need for a cease-fire as Israeli airstrikes kill more civilians

4 November 2023 | AP News

Public Reading - War Stories Society

War Stories Society presents authors reading from the recently published Canadian military anthology, A Mile in Their Boots, as well as new stories from the current Veterans' Writing Workshop.

Experience the challenges and rewards of military life, how some storytellers protect themselves from the trauma of combat, the depth of the bonds that they share with their fellow soldiers, and how the experience of war forever changes the way in which each of them looks at the world.

Q&A with the authors to follow. Event is free but registration is required.

About RAUSI

Royal Alberta United Services Institute (RAUSI)

RAUSI is a Canadian-based forum for global civilians, humanitarian, military and international police communities to present original thoughts on trending issues, in their formative stages, as they relate to global security and defence.

Formed in 1920 as a think tank, RAUSI later evolved into a service organization for veterans in the decades following the World Wars. In this new era, RAUSI has evolved back into a think tank, publishing original content, curating extant articles, and sponsoring speaker’s symposia which amplify cross-disciplined models of 21st century security and defence.
