HeartsandMindsLogo EMAIL copy

The Restoring Hearts and Minds Symposium Events for People with Lived Experience (PWLE) of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) are envisioned as a space created by PWLE to share, engage support, and collaborate with members of the media, service providers, the millitary and each other as they continue their journey of recovery.

THEME 2: The Role of External Service Providers and the Media

Wednesday, November 23, 2022
10:00 am–12:00 pm ET

Part 1 - The Role of Media in reporting the MST Crisis

In this virtual session, speakers with lived military sexual trauma experience will engage with participants from the media to discuss their experiences coming forward in the press/offer guidance to the media on how to approach MST survivors/stories through a trauma-informed lens. We will hear both sides of the experience so that media partners and PWLE can create a dialogue that paves the way for learning and change. Discussion will be followed by a live audience Q&A.

Part 2 - The Role of Service Providers in helping PWLE and Families navigate the complexities of MST

In this virtual session, speakers with lived military sexual trauma experience will engage with frontline service providers to discuss their experiences and identify where gaps exist and potentially, ideas to help fill those gaps in service and care for PWLE who wish to pursue care both within and outside of DND/CAF/VAC. We will hear both sides of the experience so that service providers and PWLE can create a dialogue that paves the way for learning and change. Discussion will be followed by a live audience Q&A.

This is one of three in a series. Visit the website for more details.
